Elaveezhapoonchira means ‘valley where leaves don’t fall’, named as the place has no trees. Verdant landscape with 1000 m high hills. Highest point is Kannadipara. Valley of this rocky mountain reflects the morning sun with mirror like perfection. Pazhakakanam plateau with bamboo groves, meadows & wild flowers nourished by Todupuzha river & Kazhukankulimali waterfalls are nearby. During monsoons, the valley fills up to form a scenic lake.

Illickkal Kallu

Illikkan Kallu comprises three hills, each rising to 4000 ft. and above sea level. Each of the hills has a peculiar shape. One of them resembles a mushroom, which is known as Kuda Kallu (umbrella shaped rock). It is said that the medicinal herb Neela Koduveli grows here. This blue flower is also believed to possess supernatural powers, which could increase wealth and ensure a rich harvest. The second hill, has a small hunch on the sides and is therefore referred to as Koonu Kallu (hunch back rock). Across this rock is a ½ ft. wide bridge called Narakapalam (bridge to hell). From the hilltops, the Arabian Sea can be seen in the distant horizon as a thin blue line. The sunset on the evening of a full moon day can be sensational: the moon can be seen rising up like another sun, as the orange sun goes down.

Vagamon

The main attractions in vagamon is the beautiful green meadows, enchanting pine forests, mists, fogs, tea estates, waterfalls with the overall greenery is really striking. Vagamon is prominent for its large variety of flowers and orchids. Vagamon has amenities for trekking, paragliding, mountaineering and rock climbing. Vagamon is at the fringe of the Western Ghats and the foot hills on its lower side reach up to Teekoy with a gradual descent. This narrow strip of descending land gives a vital connectivity to the plains as both sides of vagamon up to kuttikkanam on the south west and moolamattom on the north east, are marked by steep and inaccessible hill slopes.

Kulamavu Dam

The dam is built on Kilivillithode, a tributary of the Periyar River. The Idukki reservoir comprises Idukki arch dam, Cheruthoni Dam and Kulamavu Dam. The building of these three dams resulted in the creation of a 60-square-kilometre artificial reservoir. The picturesque dam, operated and maintained by the Kerala State Electricity Board was completed in the year 1977.
Water is diverted through a long power tunnel and pressure shaft to an underground power house at Moolamattom. Kulamavu Dam and adjacent places are ideal picnic spots. Boat trips are another attraction here. When blessed with perfect weather, the places surrounding the dam make for some great scenes. However, photography is not allowed at Kulamavu Dam and tourists are not allowed to park their vehicles near the dam. They can enjoy its beauty from the Killivali viewpoint, 50 metres from the man-made construction. Bird species like snake birds and kingfishers are an additional attraction at Kulamavu.

Idukki Arch Dam

It is built on the Periyar River, in the ravine between the Kuravan and Kurathi Hills in Kerala, India. At 167.68 metres, it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia and third tallest arch dam. It started generating power on 4 October 1975. Technically, the dam type is a concrete double curvature parabolic, thin arc dam.

This dam was constructed along with two other dams at Cheruthoni and Kulamavu. Together, the three dams have created an artificial lake that is 60 km² in area. The stored water is used to produce electricity at the Moolamattom Power house, which is located inside nearby rocky caves. The Government of Canada aided in the building of the dam with long term loans and grants.

Thumpachi kurisumala (thumbichi mount) is an interesting view point. and a wonderful ecotourism spot filled with captivating scenes. It is located in Arakkalam on moolamattom kulamavu high way in Idukki district. it offers you a calm and quiet atmosphere which can energies the body and mind. From the top of the Mount, one can experience the panoramic view of high range hills and valleys and the Idukki reservoir, moolamatom.

Cheruthony Dam

Cheruthoni dam is a part of Idukki Hydro Electric Project and is located in Idukki District of Kerala State. Idukki Arch dam, Cheruthoni dam and Kulamavu dam together form the Idukki reservoir. The spill way of this reservoir is provided in Cheruthoni dam. The water from the reservoir is diverted through a 2027m long power tunnel & pressure shaft of average length 975m to an underground power house with an installed capacity 780 MW located at Moolamattom. Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary

Idukki district is among the most naturally endowed districts in Kerala and the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is a prime example. Located about 450-750 m above sea level, the sanctuary is cradled by the Cheruthoni and Periyar Rivers. The beautiful lake surrounding the sanctuary is perfect for romantic boat rides. The tropical evergreen and deciduous trees add to the charm of the place.

One can see elephants, bison, sambar deer, wild dogs, jungle cats, tiger and wild boar along with various species of snake including cobras, vipers, kraits and many non-poisonous snakes. There are many bird species as well, like the Grey Jungle Fowl, Malabar Grey Hornbill, woodpeckers and bulbuls. The sanctuary lies adjacent to the world famous Idukki Arch Dam.
